Promise yourself you will set aside a certain amount of time to write. Become your own best friend, and not your own worst enemy. Make the commitment. You can do it! Write out your commitment now.

Tell Others About Your Commitment

Tell your friends, family, and co-workers about your writing commitment. When you make a commitment known to others, you are much more likely to keep your commitment. You can do it. They can help.

Ask your friends, family, and co-workers to make a commitment to support you in your commitment. Ask them for encouragement. Ask them for some space (mentally as well as physically) to give you a few chunks of time. Ask them for their responses throughout the process. Take a moment to think about who you can share your commitment with. Write their names next to the written commitment you made with yourself.

Calendar Days and Times

Your dream of writing a book can become a reality when you assign dates and times to it. Mark your calendar with specific dates and times you’ll keep the commitment with yourself. Pick a specific start date. Tomorrow, for instance.

Put the start date on your calendar. Mark off a specific amount of time on that day. Treat it as you would make any other appointment, such as you would do if you had a doctor’s appointment. Make an appointment with yourself for each day you plan to write. Consider what’s the best time of day for you. When can you grab a few moments? Write those down.
